CGT
CGT: Abbreviation for capital
gains tax, which is a tax imposed on the profit arising from
the sale of a capital asset such shares or property.
This is a tax payable in the UK on the
appreciation in an asset's value from acquisition to
disposal. Each individual is allowed to make a certain
amount of gains each tax year before CGT is payable, the
Chancellor of the Exchequer normally reviewing the amount in
the Budget.
